What is Thousand Island? its not a dressing its an island!
The Thousand Islands is a group of islands as well as a marine conservation area located approximately 45 km north of Jakarta. There is no exact data regarding the number of islands in the Thousand Islands. On the Jakarta government website, the number of islands in the Thousand Islands was 110, 128, according to one source, saying there were 342 islands, consisting of sandy islands and coral islands.
But from the many islands there, only 11 islands were inhabited by local people. To cross from one island to another we only need about 1-2 hours.
How To Get There?
1. Crossing Past the Marina Ancol Harbor or Mutiara Beach Pier
To start the journey, you can depart from Marina Ancol Harbor and Mutiara Beach Pier. These two jetties are indeed very neat, clean and well-managed. This condition is also not too crowded. Arriving there, you will be greeted with a row of cruise ships or yachts ready to take you around the Thousand Islands. Yes, the name is only reserved for those who have enough thick pockets. That means you have to spend more to enjoy this facility. So don't be surprised if you find the condition and atmosphere of the dock neat, clean, and far from the slum impression.
2. crossing past the pier of Muara Angke
But for backpacker tourist can still cross and touch the Thousand Islands paradise by crossing past the pier of Muara Angke which is bit crowded and a lot of people, not neat although not so clean, but still okay to enjoy. Here, instead of finding cruise ships or yachts, you will be treated to passenger ships. Well, even though the conditions are not as fragile or as clean as the dock at point number one, you also have the same opportunity to enjoy the beauty of heaven in North Jakarta!
What you can do there?
Tidung Island is divided into parts. Namely Tidung Besar Island, and Small Tidung Island. Tidung Besar Island is a populated island. So don't be surprised if you find a village, a shop, a police station, or a high school level.
Meanwhile, Tidung Kecil Island is not inhabited, and reaches there you don't need to use a boat or swim. Because there is already a bridge that connects the Big Tidung Island and Tidung Kecil Island, called Jembatan Cinta. Well! Tidung Kecil Island is a place used for mangrove tree cultivation.
2. Scuba diving can go to Sepa Island which is also famous as The Paradise for Diver in Jakarta
Sepan Island is one of the best diving spots in Jakarta. If You are beginners can also learn to dive, because this one place is also used as a place to get an Open Water certificate from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). This island is also a breeding place for Hawksbill Turtles (Eretnochelys imbricata), which forms a beak resembling a bird's beak. So do not be surprised if the island is nicknamed The Paradise for Diver in Jakarta.
This island with white sand is managed by the private sector, so don't be surprised if you can't find a village. Instead, you will find a cottage that is specifically for those of you who want to learn to dive, or just snorkel on the high seas. But unfortunately, you can't find a source of fresh water on this island, so you have to be satisfied with just taking a bath using brackish water.
3. Want to just feel the sensation of staying at a simple resort on a desert island?
For those just want to enjoy the sensation of staying on a desert island, there's nothing wrong with visiting Kotok Island. On this island there is a resort that has also built various kinds of facilities. Apart from lodging, there are also prayer rooms, cafes, restaurants, and even a tree house.
4. Campground at Semak Daun Island
This is the island which is a favorite destination for mediocre travelers. Because there are no resorts or residential villages, so you have to bring your own tent if you want to stay on this island. Although it has been provided by the campground, but to save more money it is recommended to bring tents and camping equipment themselves - including food supplies. Anyway, here is also a shark breeding, you know!
5. Traveling the sea while studying history on Onrush Island
Those of you who visit Onrust Island can enjoy the island while enjoying the water, you can also learn history at the same time. Because on Onrust Island there is a fortress of Dutch heritage. At first, the island was used as a place to make damaged VOC shipyards. But after that it was built to become a defensive fortress from the British attack, until it also became a place of quarantine for people with infectious diseases.
Even though it was destroyed several times due to massive war and looting, you can still enjoy the beauty of the fort, as well as a house that is still intact, which is currently used as a museum. Onrust Island, Cipir Island, Bidadari Island, Kelor Island and Edam Island are currently designated as Seribu Archipelago Archaeological Park as a sanctuary by the local government.
6. Sabira Island is used as the northern guard island
Sabira island is located the northernmost of the other islands, it is not surprising if this one island was dubbed Noord Watcher, or North Guard. Yep! This is the island which is located at the northern end of the Thousand Islands cluster. The existence of a lighthouse that stands on it also adds to that this island in ancient times was intended as a guard post.
Because the location is the very end that makes this island adjacent to Lampung Province. However, this island is not as quiet, scary, or as scary as you might imagine. Because on this one island there is a small village inhabited by at least 100 family heads.
